Benefits of Security Films for DFW Homes & Commercial Properties

security window film on commercial building

Whether it’s a residential or commercial property, your windows can benefit from security window films. The following are some of the potential benefits for your DFW home or business:

  • Helps to hold broken windows together
  • May help prevent dangerous flying glass shards if the window is broken
  • May help prevent water and debris damage from storms
  • If an intruder encounters the glass after a window breaks, it may deter them or slow their progress

How Security Films Reinforce Window Safety and Deter Break-Ins

If a window is broken, it can send potentially lethal glass shards flying. Security window films help hold shards in place if a window breaks. Although an intruder can still enter your home, a security window film may help deter or slow an intruder who attempts to smash a window to gain entry. When trying to break in by shattering a window, an intruder could be confronted by security window film holding the glass in place.

Our Security Film Installation Process for Maximum Protection

For the security window film to work as intended, it must be installed properly. At Pro Films Window Tinting, we follow these steps to do the job right:

  1. We cover the floor to protect it from the soap and water mixture used in the installation process.
  2. We prepare the window surface using a scraper or scrounge pad (whichever works best for the glass).
  3. We remove the security window film from the box, cut it close to how it will fit into the window, and peel off the film’s liner. The soap and water solution activates the adhesive.
  4. The security window film is then applied to the glass, covering all areas. Next, we’ll begin to squeegee out the soapy water.
  5. When 90% of the water has been removed from the film and is securely positioned, we cut it for an accurate fit.
  6. Finally, the edges are dried, and we wipe the window clean.
  7. The window security film has a curing process. It may take up to 30 days to dry entirely. Occasionally, a blister may appear, but it will disappear over time.

FAQs About Security Window Films

How do security window films work?

Security window film consists of hundreds of thin plastic layers that create an abrasive, tear-resistant surface. While it isn’t designed to prevent glass from breaking, it adds some impact resistance and reduces the risk of flying glass if the window does break.

Can security films prevent window shattering?

No. Windows can still break and shatter. Security window film helps hold shattered glass in place and reduces the chance of it flying.

Are security films effective for both residential and commercial buildings?

Yes! Security window films help protect residential and commercial buildings from flying glass shards if a window breaks.

Do security window films reduce heat or UV rays?

Some security window films help reduce heat and block UV rays.

How durable are security window films over time?

Security window films can become less effective over time. Contact your security window film provider for more detailed information on your specific film.
