How Heat Reducing Films Lower Energy Costs and Improve Indoor Comfort

Heat-reducing films can lower a building’s energy cost by reducing solar heat gain. This helps reduce heat in your home and means your air conditioning won’t have to work as hard, helping save you money on energy bills.

Reducing the solar heat gain will make your home cooler, making hot summer days more comfortable. Imagine sitting beside a window and reading a book or watching TV with less of the intense summer heat pouring through.

Professional Heat Reducing Film Installation for Optimal Results

Pro Films Window Tinting, LLC is dedicated to providing high-quality heat-reducing film installation services for your home or business. We take great care in following strict installation guidelines to ensure that your window tint is installed correctly and will last for years to come.

All of our installations are prepared by first protecting your home or business’s floor with a protective floor covering. This ensures that there is no fading or damage to your property during the film installation process. We then thoroughly clean the window surfaces, ensuring that no dirt or grime is left on them which could get stuck between the film and the glass.

We then carefully apply the window film, using only the most proven methods in the trade. The film is carefully cut to meet your window’s exact size specifications, ensuring that there are no gaps which could weaken its heat-reducing qualities.

The curing process takes 30 days, during which you may notice that there are small water bubbles. These are a normal part of the process and will resolve on their own as the film continues to cure. Once the curation is complete, your window film will work hard to reduce the heat and energy usage of your building.

FAQs About Heat Reducing Window Films

How do heat-reducing window films work?

Heat-reducing window films help to block solar heat gain from entering your home or business through your windows while still allowing light to shine through.

Can heat-reducing films help lower energy bills?

Yes! By decreasing solar heat gain, your heating system won’t have to do as much work.

Are heat-reducing films effective for all types of windows?

Certain window types don’t work well with window film or require a special window film type. The following are a few examples. Please note this is not conclusive. Please consult with a window film professional to determine if heat-reducing window films are a good choice for your windows.

Plexiglass, acrylic, and curved windows require a special type of tint. If a window is made from a material besides glass, you’ll want a film with a multi-surface adhesive.

Window film shouldn’t be applied to windows that have the following characteristics:

1. Single-pane windows with an area of over 100 feet and double-pane windows with an area of over 40 feet
2. Clear glass that has a thickness greater than ⅜ inches or tinted glass with a thickness greater than ¼ inch
3. Glass that has a nonstandard surface or composition, such as textured, wired, patterned, or reflective glass
4. Painted or vinyl-decorated windows
5. Glass that has solid steel, solid aluminum, or concrete framing
6. Glass that is damaged

Energy.gov notes that window tint’s heat gain blocking effectiveness can vary based on window characteristics, including:

Window glazing area’s size
The orientation of the window
If the window features interior insulation

Some windows feature a low-emission coating, or a Low-E coating. If the Low-E coating is facing the space that is between the window panes, a window film can be placed on the room-facing side of the window film, and will not comprise the Low-E coating’s benefits.

If the Low-E coating is on the window’s interior side, window film shouldn’t be applied as it could reduce or get rid of the heat loss reduction that the Low-E coating offers.

Do heat-reducing films block UV rays as well?

Some heat-reducing films also block UV rays. However, how many UV rays are blocked depends on the type of window film. Please check with your window film provider for information on the amount of UV rays that are blocked.

How long do heat-reducing films last?

While many variables affect how long heat-reducing film lasts, it can last 10 to 15 years or even more, depending on the quality of the film, maintenance, and environmental conditions.
